It is a better thing to be who Jesus is!
Good actions from wrong motives are not good at all. Even worse, wrong motives can lead to the damage and destruction of our lives. That’s why the writer of Proverbs stated:
Above all else, guard your heart,
For it is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4: 23 NIVI).
Jesus knew who He was, He knew who His Father was and He knew what He was sent to do. With this security deep in his heart he could continue to radically minister to men, women, children–sinners who knew they were sinners, and sinners who did not. He was a safe person, even though the ministry opportunities that came his way sometimes were not.
Jesus was a safe person. He called people to follow him in a radical way. He challenged them to acts of repentance, service and faith, but left the door open for them to make a choice. He went to them in public places and private ones. We can glean, from Jesus’ recorded interactions with people, ways to be a safe person–just like He was.
