Have you heard the definition of “insanity” used in the Twelve Step movement? Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result! We don’t like to think of ourselves as insane, but sometimes we appear that way. We keep doing things the same way, but somehow expect different results.
In Church circles when new believers stumble, we often encourage them to do more of the same thing they were doing–more Bible reading, more prayer, join a small group, get more fellowship. For some, it helps them to hang on for a few more years. Others quickly drop by the wayside. Perhaps we need to acknowledge that the Church needs to be proactive in providing more complete cure for our souls.
